Colonial Heights's Best Martial Arts SCHOOL

A Colonial Heights grappling club for kids and adults

Tri Cities Jiu Jitsu Club is a martial arts school in Colonial Heights, Virginia, built around Brazilian jiu jitsu with wrestling and Muay Thai alongside it. Colonial Heights had 18,738 residents in 2025, per the Census Bureau.

The median home in town was built in 1970, per the American Community Survey (2024). The club sits among those neighborhoods as a place where families and grown-ups both come to train.

The club describes its mission as building a supportive community. It says its classes fit every age and every skill level. It opens early, running from 5:45 am to 9 pm Monday through Saturday, and stays closed Sunday.

Jiu jitsu, Muay Thai and wrestling on the mats

Jiu jitsu is the heart of the place. The club says its Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes teach self-defense and work on the ground game, for kids and adults alike. It also runs Muay Thai kickboxing, which it describes as a hard, fast workout for strength and agility, plus wrestling.

Tri Cities Jiu Jitsu Club lists programs split by age. They run from a Tiny Tigers class for 4 and 5 year olds up to teen and adult wrestling and Muay Thai.

Reviewers mention most how welcoming everyone is and how patient the coaches are with kids. Many were in town for a few weeks of military training or work, dropped in to train, and say they felt like regulars from the first day.

If you just moved to Colonial Heights, the easy first step is booking a single class. The club says you can come by to set one up, and its youngest program takes kids as early as age 4.

I can’t say enough good things about this jiu-jitsu club and the people who run it. Our son has attended classes here, and from the very beginning we have been incredibly impressed with the instructors, the atmosphere, and the way the kids are treated. The instructors are patient, encouraging, professional, and genuinely care about the kids they are teaching. They do an outstanding job creating an environment where children can learn, be challenged, build confidence, and have fun while also learning discipline and respect.

Dropped in for a couple weeks while in town. I travel a lot and drop in to gyms often. Very accommodating, clean, knowledgeable, and friendly. I had a great time and some good rolls. I’ll definitely be training there again when I’m back down that way. Highly recommend this place 👍🏻

I dropped in and Professor Barry welcomed me with opened arms and even offered for me to train for free during my short stay while attending a military school at Fort Lee. He was so generous that I felt it was right that I still pay the drop-in fee. Very clean gym and very welcoming members. Top level instructions by Professor Barry and his instructors. I highly recommend this gym for BJJ. I believe they also offer kickboxing and other combat sports. I’ll be coming back to train at this gym every time I go Fort Lee for training.
