A Lockhart Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school under new owners
Lockhart Jiu-Jitsu is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Lockhart, Texas, with mats for kids, teens and grown-ups. Lockhart had 18,159 residents in 2025, per the Census Bureau, and sits in Caldwell County. The median home in town was built in 1986, per the American Community Survey (2024).
The school says it changed hands on Feb. 1, 2026. Professor Troy Miedema, a second degree black belt, now owns it with Ronald Peterson, DC. Its website describes the change as a refinement, not a restart: the same mats, with a tighter curriculum and better onboarding for beginners.
Kids classes, adult training and a free first class
Most folks come here to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and the school also lists kickboxing and self defense among what it teaches. The youngest students start at age 4. The school names three groups: Adults for 13 and up, Mighty Warriors for ages 8 to 12, and Little Arrows for ages 4 to 7.
The website pitches the kids program around focus, confidence and standing up to bullies. Teens get work on leadership and practical self defense. Adults get beginner friendly training, and the school says it keeps class sizes limited so coaches can give real attention.
The doors open as early as 6 am on most weekdays and stay open into the evening Monday through Thursday, with a short Saturday morning slot. The school holds a 4.7 rating across 57 Google reviews. Reviewers mostly talk about a friendly, low-ego crowd and instructors who help newer students along. Several mention parents and kids training at the same gym, and a few point to women on the mats and the changes since the new owners arrived.
If you just moved to Lockhart, the school says your first class is a free trial and no experience is needed. Book one, show up in comfortable clothes and see if the mat suits you.
Google Reviews
I visited for a free trial class and enjoyed my time here. There were plenty of women and lots of upper belts who were willing to help the lower belts with the technique of the day. Friendly professors and a great environment! Would recommend!
Coach Troy is amazing, would highly recommend to anyone in the area
I recently started going to this gym, and from the moment I walked in, I was met with smiles and a community that made me feel welcome from the start! I am beyond happy that I found a gym with this much knowledge, love, and grit as a whole! I hope to see you there !
