Chess Max Academy Chess Club & Classes For Kids
A Greenwich chess club built for kids
Chess Max of Greenwich is a chess club for kids in Greenwich, and one of four Chess Max Academy locations (the other three are in New York City). The academy says grandmaster Maxim Dlugy founded it. It teaches children from age 3 up to 16.
Greenwich had 14,792 residents in 2024, per the Census Bureau, in the Western Connecticut Planning Region. The median home in town was built in 1955, per the American Community Survey (2024).
Classes, tournaments and holiday camps
Group classes are the main draw, and the club is open every day, with earlier starts on weekends. The academy describes seven levels, starting with a program for 3 to 5 year olds and running up to a Masters class. Kids move up once they've got the current material down, and each group class comes with weekly homework.
Private coaching is on offer too. The website names an adaptive program for students with ADHD or autism. It also lists one-hour private lessons for adults at $100, for grownups picking the game back up or learning it fresh.
Weekends bring tournaments for all ages and levels, rated by the U.S. Chess Federation. During summer and school breaks, the academy runs chess camps with grandmaster teaching every day.
Reviewers mostly talk about patient, upbeat coaches, small classes and kids who are eager to come back each week. The tournaments come up often as a favorite. One parent wished for more practice material kids could use at home.
If you've just moved to Greenwich with a kid who's curious about the game, the academy says families can start with a free skill assessment to find the right class level.
Google Reviews
ChessMax, and coach Mikhail, have been great instructors, providing solid growth as well as a constructive, structured, and nurturing framework for that growth.
My 5,5 old twins have been enjoying chess for almost 2 years at Chess Max Greenwich. Coach Eric is patient with the little ones. The admin office is helpful and flexible with make up classes etc. I will continue as long as the kids remain interested & engaged. I would be great if they had some digital/age-appropriate content to practice at home.
My son has been studying here for almost two years and has learned so much from Coach Arrik. They host tournaments every other Sunday, and the kids absolutely love participating! It’s a great environment with caring coaches and staff, plus a convenient location. Highly recommended!
